The NDT laboratory is part of the center for building materials (cbm) in München-Pasing and as an institution allocated to two faculties: Department of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering as well as Department of Mechanical Engineering. It deals with all methods evaluating non-destructively materials and structures. The goal is to observe what is not visible to the human eye and to monitor deteriorations of materials and structures in terms of structural health monitoring. This is certainly not only a task in material science generally and in the both disciplines, civil and mechanical engineering, in particular but also in architecture, cultural heritage, geophysics, geology and even medicine. Basics of the methods are derived from physics, electrical engineering, computer science and data processing and so is the non-destructive evaluation of materials and structures a truly interdisciplinary field.
